11 Dec Year 2 Mathematicians being Full Members of their Community
After each of the Christmas performances there is a voluntary collection for two local charities. This year it’s for Jigsaw 4 U (a charity supporting families experiencing trauma) and Sutton Night Watch (a charity supporting people in Sutton who are homeless).
The children used their maths skills to count the money.
First they sorted the coins, then they put the coins into easy to count piles. They then found the total of each type of coin and recorded this to include in the money bags.
Next they counted the notes, using their knowledge of multiplies, counting in 5s, 10s and 20s.
Finally they added all the amounts together and were delighted to find over £250 has been donated so far. They’re looking forward to counting donations following the Nursery, Reception and Year 1 shows.
Thank you to everyone who attended a Christmas Show and made a donation.
