03 Nov Year 2 Creativity
Autumn Term began and ended in a flash. The children thoroughly enjoyed their first topic of the school year ‘Beat Band Boogie’. They delved into the world of musical instruments, with a touch of art along the way. Throughout the term the children experimented with different instruments, which led up to their final masterpiece – performing in a marching band. First they had to research what a marching band is and how they perform. After that they formed small groups and planned what they would wear, how they would perform and what instruments they would play. Then they planned when each person would play their instrument, practised their routine and finally performed to the other members of their class.
The children enjoyed learning about Russian artist Wassilly Kandinsky. They learned that he would listen to music whilst he was painting and this would influence his works of art. Each child had the opportunity to create their own Kandinsky inspired art piece, calmly listening to the music that was being played and painting what the music was making them feel. Each piece of art is unique and shows how the children interpreted the music differently.
During our English lessons we read an inspiring book called ‘The Bear and the Piano’. It is all about a bear who rises to fame due to his amazing talent as a pianist. In order to immerse ourselves in the story we all took on the roles of the different characters and brought the story to life.
We are really looking forward to all of the fantastic learning that will take place in Autumn 2 with our new topic ‘Bright Lights, Big City’.
