06 Nov Year 2 Bakers!
The children in Year 2 are very excited about their topic Bright Lights, Big City. They have had the opportunity to learn about The Great Fire of London. During the Engage Stage of the topic the children became bakers, just like Thomas Farriner, who worked at the bakery in Pudding Lane where The Great Fire of London started. In preparation for making bread, children learned to plait playdough, so that they could choose to plait their bread dough when the time came. The children used their reading skills to follow the recipe and maths skills to accurately weigh out the ingredients needed. While they waited for the dough to rise, they enjoyed writing with a quill to experience how people wrote at that time.
The children were delighted to show their bread to their grown-ups at the end of the day and were excited to take the recipe home to share their new baking skills with their families. As they develop their learning about The Great Fire of London they will explore the diary of Samuel Pepys and act out the events as a class.
Many families told us how much they enjoyed eating the bread yesterday evening and lots are going to use the recipe to make their own.
