As part of their topic Muck, Mess and Mixtures the children in Year 2 have been learning about famous artists. They have explored the mediums of clay, charcoal and paint, whilst learning new techniques. The used clay to make a pinch pot and coil pot. They also explored images of sculptures created by Barbara Hepworth. They used the familiar medium of paint to explore printing patterns like Alma Thomas. The children learned new techniques to use when drawing with charcoal, such as cross hatching and smudging. They also enjoyed looking at the very detailed pictures Lowry drew using charcoal.
