17 Nov Visiting Wallington War Memorial
As part of the topic Bright Lights, Big City the children in Year 2 have been learning about landmarks in London and local landmarks in Wallington. The children have been learning about the significance of these landmarks at different points in history and how they can be used to help remember or mark significant events.
On Remembrance Day, Monday 11th November Year 2 visited Wallington War Memorial to see how the local community uses the war memorial a a significant landmark to mark Remembrance Day.
The children looked carefully at the symbols on the war memorial, the names of those who died in World War One and World War Two and who from the local community had laid wreathes. Following the visit Year 2 and the rest of the school took part in the two minutes silence to remember all those who have died in conflicts around the world.
