What is an ECT? An ECT is an Early Career Teacher. In previous years this role was known as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT). You can apply for an ECT role once you have successfully gained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
What can an ECT expect when joining Beddington Infants’ School? All of our ECTs are allocated an experienced school-based Mentor and Induction Tutor, who will provide both expertise and support during the two years of induction, including:
Year 1 ECTs receive a weekly 1 hour meeting with their mentor and a teaching timetable that is not more than 90% (including PPA) of a main scale colleague.
Year 2 ECTs receive a fortnightly 1 hour meeting with their mentor and a teaching timetable that is not more than 95% (including PPA) of a main scale colleague.
One formal observation each half term.
Progress Review Meeting at the end of Terms 1, 2, 4 and 5.
Formal Assessment Meeting at the end of Terms 3 and 6.
Opportunities to take part in a range of professional development opportunities offered by the school, by our cluster and by our appointed Appropriate Body.
Opportunities to build relationships with other ECTs in the school, across the Sutton Education Trust (SET), and via networking sessions led by our cluster and our appointed Appropriate Body.
