The Governing Body is always interested to hear from people who would like to join us. There are two possible routes:
The Governing Body currently has four Parent-Governor positions. If a Parent-Governor leaves, an election is held for a replacement, with a tenure of four years. The only people eligible to vote in the election are parents/carers of children at the school.
The Governing Body also has occasional vacancies for Co-opted/Community Governors – and can choose to co-opt suitable candidates who are keen, committed and, in particular, have skills which we may lack from time to time.
School Governance is a rewarding public duty – there is no better feeling than knowing you have given up time and effort to improve the life-chances of children. (Giving up time and effort is not an optional component…) It is also unpaid, time-consuming, occasionally stressful, sometimes frustrating and, initially at least, incomprehensibly dominated by a whole new world of jargon (which we will help with!). You will benefit – perhaps hugely – from the experience and you will learn about yourself and your own capabilities – it’s impossible not to. You will also get many chances to experience the moments of joy that children offer in the school environment. Because that is the whole point of it: The children.
